How the Penalty Fees Work

Atlanta Water assesses fees to new and existing customers. The fees include late payment fees, convenience fees and security deposits.

  • Late payments – Customers that pay your Atlanta Water bill past the due date incur a $5 or 5% fee, whichever is greater.
  • Convenience fee – All electronic payments are assessed a convenience fee of $4.50.
  • Security deposit – New customers of Atlanta Water are assessed a security deposit of $95.
  • Returned check – The fee for returned checks is $30.

I Can’t Make a Payment

Atlanta Water offers several programs designed to assist customers that can’t pay your bills.

  • Care and Conserve – This service is designed to assist income-eligible home owners that reside in the city of Atlanta. The program is available on a one-time basis.
  • Senior Citizen Discount – Atlanta Water provides assistance to residents of Atlanta that are a minimum of 65 years old and have household incomes less than $25,000. The program is not for past due amounts, only current charges.
  • Payment plans – Customers can call customer service at 1-404-885-1889 to discuss payment arrangements that fit your monthly budget.

  1. No I have gotten no help with Atlanta water, I had spent monies that I don’t have to get a leak that I was told was Atanta watershed fault when they dug up my driveway to fix the problem. I was told I will get an adjustment for the chargers and leaving me with a balance of $600 is not acceptable, I don’t even know how they came up with this amount and I was told I need to pay because I miss two payment arrangements. The payment arrangements was too high for me to pay and I told the people that, my bill has been way under $100 I am 76yrs old and taking care of my 78yr old husband who has a mind illness we cannot just up $600 to pay a bill for Atlanta Water problem, if I have to get the fox 5 news to help me get a better payment I will. I’m going to pay for the last two months, not exactly sure what that is but I will get my son to figure it out and I would like a response or a new payment explaining the $600 balance.

Yes The water company has helped me in the past by placing me on a payment plan but due to the 12 financially disadvantaged persons who live in my home,and recurring defective plumbing, my bill is always more than I can pay. current sewer charges alone are 572.22. and if I don’t pay 958.61 today my payment plan breaks. I don’t have it today but will have it by Thursday October 18, 2012 when all other bills will be put aside to pay this. My total bill is $1873.00 which is two house payments for me. I can’t make my family and friends homeless so I continue trying until they can do better. I am the only gainfully employed person in my home and I am 66 years old on SSI and partially retired. It is only through the donations of the church and friends that we make it.Please give me time and by the grace of God, eventually I will pay.
