What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your Choptank Electric Bill

Customers have the ability to register for online account access and e-bills to make energy bill control a bit easier. If you are having trouble making your Choptank Electric bill, the best thing to do is contact the customer service department.
How to Pay the Bill
If you want to pay your Choptank Electric bill, you can send a check or money order to the company in the envelope included in your monthly bill. There are also a few other payments options available.
Pay with bank draft: If you contact the customer service department for Choptank Electric, you can request an application for bank draft authorization. This form must be returned to Choptank Electric before your monthly bills will automatically be debited from your bank account.
Pay by phone: Credit card payments are accepted by phone at 1-877-892-0001.
Pay at a drop box: Drop boxes are located throughout the service area for customers to make payments 24 hours a day. Contact Choptank Electric for a complete list of drop box locations in the Denton, Maryland area.

No one likes to receive an electric bill with fees they don’t understand. Fees, including late payment charges and returned payment fees are explained in the Member Guide. Customers can also call the service department at 1-877-892-0001.
How the Penalty Fees Work
- Late payment fee: A late payment fee of 1.5% of the past due balance may be added to your bill if payment is not received by the due date listed on the bill. Choptank Electric will waive this fee twice a year if the request is made in writing within 45 days of the fee being charged.
- Returned payment fee: $25 per returned payment in addition to the late payment charge.
- Collection fee: If Choptank Electric sends a representative to the service address to collect payment, they will charge your account $10 for the trip.
I Can’t Make a Payment
If you can’t make a payment for your Choptank Electric bill contact the service department at 1-877-892-0001. The service department can place your past due balance on a payment plan, according to the Member Services pamphlet. However, if you do not call customer service they will not be able to help.
LIHEAP: The LIHEAP Home Energy Assistance Program is available to customers meeting low-income guidelines. Customers must apply for support once per year.
