How the Penalty Fees Work
Gwinnet County Water charges several fees if customers are unable to make payment on-time or if service is disconnected for non-payment.
- Deposit: All customers must pay a deposit of $50 for residential homes. This deposit is non-refundable, so customers cannot use this deposit to make payment when discontinuing service nor will the deposit be returned when service is discontinued.
- Late payment fee: 10% of the total unpaid bill.
- Returned check fee: Charged at the maximum allowed by the state. The amount may vary as state laws change.
- Non-payment service restoration: $50 per instance.
- Same day reconnection from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m.: $125 per instance.
- Same day reconnection from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.: $250 per instance.
