How The Penalty Fees Work

The Macy’s card carries a market-variable 24.5% APR.

Macy’s bills every 25 days, and to avoid paying the APR on revolving credit purchases you must pay the revolving balance in full.

Macy’s late payment fee is “up to $35.”

Macy’s returned payment fee is “up to $35.”

With a Macy’s card, you avoid the APR penalty by meeting your minimum payment each 25-day billing cycle. Missing one payment triggers the APR fee. Minimum payments depend on your account type.

  • Macy’s Revolving Account Type: $25.00 or 3.25% of that month’s balance, or the full amount of the new balance if it’s under $25.
  • Macy’s Major Purchase Account Type: $25.00 or 3.25% of that month’s balance, or the full amount of the new balance if it’s under $25.
  • Macy’s Club Account Type: $25.00 or 1/12th of the new balance of the Macy’s Club Account since it last had a $0 balance.

Macy’s charges a $3 per item Document Production fee if you request past statements, or any previously provided documents from them.

I Can’t Make A Payment

We attempted to contact Macy’s billing to ask them how they would help a card holder who has fallen behind on payments. The billing call center picked up immediately, which was good. However, they were clearly an outsourced operation, and they had no procedures in place to answer our questions. For legal reasons, they were unable to comment on. We also spoke to representatives from Macys PR, HR, and corporate services but again, for internal policy reasons, no one was able to comment on Macy’s procedure for helping card holders who have fallen behind.

Will They Work With Me To Pay My Bill?
