What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your TDS Bill
TDS or TDS Telecom is a cable company supplying television, phone and Internet to customers. Typically, companies like TDS offer steady package prices, but financial trouble can hit at any time so one day that bill may fit well within your budget and the next there is simply no money to pay your TDS bill. While account changes will not help pay current charges, they may reduce the cost of service in the future. Contact customer service immediately if you can’t make a payment on-time.
How to Pay a Bill
TDS offers four options for paying your cable bill. Two of the options are free and two are offered with a service charge.
Pay by mail: Payments are accepted by mail, but there is a significant delay between the time when payments are sent and when the payments are credited to your account. TDS suggests a wait time of 5 business days or more, so this is not the best option if your account is past due.
TDS Payment Center
PO Box 94510
Palatine, IL 60094-4510
Pay by phone: If you wish to make a payment for your TDS bill by phone you must call 1-888-225-5837. There is a service charge of $2.95 per transaction. Customers can pay with a credit card, debit card or checking account.
Pay at a payment center: Western Union and Walmart accepts TDS payments at various locations. A service fee of $1 or more may be applied to your payment at these locations. You must bring your payment stub (perforated portion of the bill typically sent with mail payment) to the payment location.
Questions About Your Billing Statement or Account?
If you have questions about the fees assessed to your monthly bill, including late payment fees, security deposits and early termination fees, we recommend visiting the TDS FAQs customer care page. You can also call customer service at 1-866-571-6662 for additional information.
How the Penalty Fees Work
- Late payment fee: TDS will charge your account a late payment fee if payment is not received by the due date. If you’ve sent payment through the mail and that payment is received after the due date, a late payment charge will still apply. The late payment charge is equal to the state maximum allowed.
I Can’t Make a Payment
The online customer service and FAQs sections of the TDS website do not discuss company policies in regards to payment plans or payment arrangements. We contacted customer service about the issue and customer service verified there was a payment plan option for customers having trouble paying their bill on-time. The phone number for customer service is 1-866-571-6662. The agent advised customers to call before receiving the disconnect notice to resolve the bill and place payments on an affordable plan.
Will They Work With Me to Pay My Bill?
The customer service agent for TDS was more than willing to tell us a bit about the payment plan option, but a bit is never enough. Do you have experience with this company?
