What To Do When You Can’t Pay Your American Family Car Insurance Bill

When your car insurance bill is due and you don’t have the money, it can be very stressful. We’re here to help by offering information, tips, and advice.

How To Pay The Bill

American Family Insurance offers many different options for paying your car insurance bill. Here are your options:

  • Automated Funds Transfer:Automatically deduct the payments each month from your checking or savings account.

  • Log into your online account: Pay your American Family car insurance bill online with a checking or savings account or a credit or debit card. You can make a one-time payment or set up recurring payments.

  • Telephone: call 1-866-424-8002. You can use your MasterCard or Visa debit/credit card, or make a payment from your checking/savings account.

  • Bank transfer: Make an electronic payment through any financial institution or bill payer service.

  • Mail: The billing address to mail payments is different in every state. To find the billing address for your state, go to American Family Insurance Pay by Mail and use the drop down selection box to find the address for your state.
  • How The Penalty Fees Work

There are a number of penalty fees for late payments. A handling fee is charged if the minimum amount is not received by the due date. This fee varies by state. If your payment is refused by the bank, American Family charges a returned item bank fee. This primarily applies to automatic payments and online billing.

    I Can’t Make A Payment

Whenever you start an auto insurance policy, you pay one month in advance. If you miss a payment, you will be covered until that month runs out. After that, you must make a payment or your policy will expire, which can have serious repercussions and wind up costing a great deal more than the payment itself.

Will They Work With Me To Pay My Bill?

American Family Insurance offers no special deals, but you can edit or stop a payment using their online payment system. Other options include lowering your coverage amounts to lower the bill or dropping all but the minimum coverage required by law, raising your deductibles, or splitting your payments into more manageable chunks.
