What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your Meijer Bill
Meijer is a Midwestern chain of one-stop shopping superstores with over 19 stores located in Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky. Meijer’s website also reaches customers beyond these states through online shopping. Like grocery stores and supercenters across the country, Meijer offers store credit cards that customers can use to earn rewards.
Meijer has several options for store credit cards:
- Meijer Prepaid MasterCard
- Meijer Fleet Services Card
- Meijer Store Credit Card
- Meijer Platinum MasterCard
The Meijer Prepaid MasterCard is a reloadable card similar to a debit card. The Meijer Fleet Services Card helps businesses keep gas and vehicle maintenance charges all on one statement. This page deals specifically with the Meijer Store Credit Card and the Meijer Platinum MasterCard.
When you use your Meijer Store Credit Card or Meijer Platinum MasterCard, you earn these rewards:
- 10% off your first in-store purchase
- Over 12 exclusive savings events every year
- 5 cents off per gallon of Meijer gas
Also, with the MasterCard, you earn one point per dollar spent at Meijer or anywhere worldwide. Once you have accumulated 2,000 points, you will receive a coupon for 20% off of your grocery or health and beauty care purchases at Meijer enclosed in your monthly billing statement.

Questions About Your Billing Statement or Account?
Penalty fees and transaction fees are listed on the Terms and Conditions page. You can contact customer service at 1-866-763-4537.
How the Penalty Fees Work
Meijer Credit is issued by GE Money Bank, which is the processer for numerous different store credit cards. The Meijer Platinum MasterCard has an APR (Annual Percentage Rate) of 19.99% for a Type 1 Account or 23.99% for a Type 2 Account. The Meijer Store Credit Card has an APR of 26.99%. These percentages are applicable when you open your account, but the APR may vary later as the market fluctuates based on the Prime Rate.
Your bill is due at least 23 days after the close of each billing cycle. You will not be charged interest on purchases if you pay your entire balance by the due date of each month. The late fee for missed payments is $25 if you have made all of your other payments on time, or $35 if you have failed to pay the minimum payment one or more times. If you are charged interest, the charge will be at least $2.00.
Other fees applicable to the Meijer Platinum MasterCard are $10 or 3% of the total amount (whichever is greater) for balance transfers and cash advances, and 3% of the total of all foreign transactions.
I Can’t Make a Payment
When calling Meijer Customer Service, the automated menu will ask for a credit account number or social security number. Wait a few moments without entering any numbers, and the call will be transferred to a Customer Service representative.
When we contacted customer service asking about their policies for helping customers who have fallen behind on payments, the representative was not able to answer our questions. Communication was difficult, and possibly the operation was outsourced. The representative forwarded our call to someone who might help us, but after being on hold for 5 minutes, the automated message said the office was unavailable and we should call back tomorrow. Ultimately, we could get no information from Meijer Customer Service, but many forum postings indicate that GE Money Bank is not lenient on interest or fees, even for first-time offenses.
