What to Do When You Can’t Pay Your RCN Bill

RCN is a cable company serving Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, Lehigh Valley, New York City and Philadelphia. The company offers full access to you account online and bundled services. If you are experiencing financial difficulty and can’t pay your RCN bill by the due date, it is important to contact customer service immediately. If you are attempting to make a payment when your account is already past due, choosing the fastest payment option will return your account to current status and reduce the risk of new late charges.

How to Pay a Bill

The service area for RCN is huge and thus the payment options may vary by location. Online payments are quick, but in-person payments at a local payment center may credit your account before online payments.

Pay online: You can pay your RCN bill online at https://www.rcn.com. Customers must register for an online account before accessing payment options. You will need your account number to register. Make sure to change the location at the top of the page to your location before attempting to register or sign into your online account.

Pay by phone: Phone payments are quick and you can speak directly to customer service to report a payment if your account is past due or in disconnect status. The phone number for RCN customer service is 1-800-746-4726. This number appears to be the same in all RCN locations.

Pay at a payment center: Payment centers are located in your current service area. To find a local payment center, visit the main website at RCN.com. Choose your location from the drop-down menu at the top of the page and click the Customer Care button in the upper right corner of the website. Scroll to the bottom half of the page and choose the Find a Payment Center link under Customer Resources. This will bring up a complete list of payment locations in your area.

How the Penalty Fees Work

RCN charges fees when customers are late making bill payments and when they request reconnection after service has been interrupted for non-payment.

  • Late payment charge: You have 28 days to pay your RCN bill before late payment charges are assessed.
  • Reconnect fee: If your service is interrupted for non-payment, you will be required to pay a fee to restore service. This fee must be paid in addition to any past due charges.

I Can’t Make a Payment

If you received a disconnect notice from RCN, customer service advises you to call 1-866-266-6250 to request a payment arrangement. The payment arrangement will stop disconnection. You must make all payments for the plan in addition to current charges to keep service connected. If you fall into past due status with a payment plan on file, RCN may disconnect service or request payment for the past due amount and current charges in full.

  1. If your really rise in price high too. We are unable to accept.Because our live by Massachusetts EAEDC(Emergency Aid to The Elderly,disabled and children). We both the monthly income only $405.We need special care.We also only need internet servise,don’t need TV and other program.We look forword to your help! Thank you!

    up and my income (not your fault), is going down.
    I didn’t order, nor do I want SHOWTIME/tmc.

  3. I really need some help with my bill this month I felt a little behind so I would love to see can you’ll give me an arrangement because I am not working right now ..But I will received benefits in the beginning of the month..

  4. In September, I called in my bill for the total amount of $171.36. The person took the call, charged me $4.50 and instead of taking $171.36, they only credited me for $138.19. There was no reason to do this. The next month I was charged over $200, breaking my budget in my bills account. I am very angry that the person made the mistake and I am not going to pay the full amount this month. This morning I called in and paid less than $200.00. I do not believe I should cover the person’s error in shorting my payment. RCN wanted $212.66 this month. I cannot afford these new prices over $200.00 monthly. My checking account was over and bank charges occurred. Please credit me the difference between $171.36 and $138.19. If not, I will choose to give up RCN. I wish to be treated fairly. RCN is getting too expensive and the personnel that made this error should have to pay the difference.
    Also, today, November 9, I called in a payment of $183.99 + $4.50 telephone charge. I want to know that this has been handled correctly.

  5. Do to gov”t shutdown,we are running behind on all our bills.I just started to work at the airport in den and then happened,I got my second pay check on the 3rd week of feb.Please do not shut off my system,I have three kids in school that need this.
